In1987 graduated from the Faculty of Law of Leningrad State University.
In 1990 completed post-graduate studies at Leningrad State University.
Holds a PhD in law and the title of associate professor.
From 1990 to 1999 taught at St Petersburg State University.
From 1990 to 1995 – Adviser to Chairman of the Leningrad City Council, expert consultant with St Petersburg City Hall's Committee for External Affairs.
1999 – Deputy Chief of Staff of the Government Executive Office.
From 1999 to 2000 – Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office.
In 2000 was appointed First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office.
From 2000 to 2001 – Chairman of the Board of Directors of Gazprom.
In 2001 – Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of Gazprom.
In June 2002 was re-appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of Gazprom.
In October 2003 was appointed Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office.
In November 2005 was appointed First Deputy Prime Minister.
On May 7, 2008 assumed the office of President of the Russian Federation.
On May 8, 2012 was appointed Prime Minister of Russia.
